Scientists discover a planet that may be habitable
This potentially habitable planet, named Gliese 12 b, is slightly smaller than Venus and has a temperature of about 42°C.

Scientists have surprised the world with a sensational discovery – a new Earth-like planet orbiting a red dwarf in the constellation Pisces, 40 light-years away. This potentially habitable planet, named Gliese 12 b, is slightly smaller than Venus and has a temperature of about 42°C. The Guardian writes about it.

"We have done preliminary calculations and found that Gliese 12 b is likely to have a size similar to Earth's and a temperate climate," says one of the study's authors, Shishir Dholakia. "This makes it extremely interesting because the temperature on its surface could be favorable for the existence of liquid water, a key component for life as we know it."

The discovery of Gliese 12 b was made possible by the direct imaging technique, which allows astronomers to directly observe exoplanets rather than just record their effects on stars.

"Although traveling to Gliese 12 b is not possible in the near future," notes Dholakia, "this discovery gives us the opportunity to explore its atmosphere with the most powerful space telescopes to better understand the conditions there."

This discovery is another step in the search for extraterrestrial life because Gliese 12 b is not just another exoplanet. Its size, temperature, and location make it one of the most promising candidates for a second home for humanity.
